Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah passes away
- Kuwait’s ruling Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah has passed away on Tuesday in a hospital in the United States. He was 91.
- He became Kuwait’s Emir in January 2006 after the death of Sheikh Jaber al-Sabah.
- According to Al Jazeera, he went to the United States in July in order to seek medical attention after undergoing surgery. Previously, he had his appendix removed in 2002, two years after a pacemaker was fitted and in 2007, he underwent a urinary tract surgery in the US.
General Atlantic to invest Rs 3,675 crore in Reliance Retail Ventures
- Reliance Industries Limited announced that the New York-based General Atlantic will invest Rs.3675 crore for a 0.84 percent stake in its retail arm.
- This is the second investment by General Atlantic in a subsidiary of RIIL.

Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf al Ahmad Al Sabah as its new emir, after the death of his h an lf-brother Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad Al Sabah. at the age of 91.
Apurva Chandra takes over as Labour Secretary
Shri Apurva Chandra who belongs to the 1988 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Maharashtra Cadre assumed charge as new Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment here today. Prior to this, he was serving as Special Director General, Defence Acquisition, Ministry of Defence, a position where he played a key role in contributing towards AtmaNirbhar Bharat in terms of greater defence acquisition from domestic industry and at the same time keeping Defence Forces equipped with all its challenging requirements. He has long experience in dealing with issues relating to industries while working in the Government of Maharashtra and the Government of India.
95th Military Nursing Day on 1 October 2020
On this day all Nursing Officers rededicate themselves to render high quality, selfless nursing care to their patients by reading the Florence Nightingale Pledge on the occasion. Lieutenant General CP Mohanty, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command extended his best wishes to the Military Nursing Service and applauded their contribution in the fight against Covid-19. In his message, he conveyed his appreciation to all MNS for their commitment towards their service to Nation. Military Nursing Service is the only all-women corps in the Armed Forces. It came into being on March 28, 1888, with the arrival of the first batch of 10 qualified British Nurses in Bombay, to organize nursing in Military hospitals in India. In 1893 it was designated as Indian Army Nursing Service(IANS) and in 1902 as Queen Alexandra Military Nursing Service (QAMNS). In 1914 for the first time, Nurses were enrolled in India and were attached to QAMNS.
100-days Campaign to be launched on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti under the Jal Jeevan Mission
While releasing the ‘Margdarshika’ for Gram Panchayats and Paani Samitis for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to have assured water supply to every rural home and the unveiling of the JJM Logo on 29th September 2020, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi spoke about the launching of ‘100 days campaign’ on 2nd October 2020 to ensure piped safe water in schools and Anganwadi centers across the country. He also appealed to the States to make the best use of this campaign to ensure the provision of potable piped water supply in these public institutions. Ensuring safe water to children is a priority, as they are the most vulnerable to water-borne diseases, therefore provisions have been made under Jal Jeevan Mission for ensuring safe water through tap water connection in schools, Anganwadi centers, health care centers, etc.
National Jal Jeevan Mission has reached out to States/ UTs to launch this campaign
on 2nd October 2020. During this 100 days campaign, Gram Sabhas will be convened coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, on 2nd October 2020 and in the coming days to pass a resolution for providing safe water in all schools, Anganwadi centers, and other public institutions in the village in the next 100 days. These facilities will be operated and maintained by the Gram Panchayat and/ or its sub-committee i.e. Village Water & Sanitation Committee or Paani Samiti.
AYUSH Minister to inaugurate Naturopathy project for Tribal Healthcare in Pune
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State (IC) for AYUSH will be inaugurating a Naturopathy hospital at the tribal hamlet at GoheBudruk in Pune, Maharashtra tomorrow through video conference. This project will serve as a Naturopathy and Yoga treatment center for the patients of the tribal community in the area and also as a training center for the Tribal Youth incorporating the skills of Naturopathy and Yoga to integrate into their health practices. This unit will also study tribal Health practices and develop a repository of tribal health practices. Shri K.C. Padavi, Minister of Tribal Development, Maharashtra will also join the event. This health facility is the result of a Memorandum of Agreement signed between the Director, NIN, and the Project Officer, Integrated Tribal Development Project, Goregaon, Pune under which handing over of the premise of Tribal School (Ashram) for setting up of Yoga and Naturopathy hospital was envisaged. This project has the special mandate of using Naturopathy and Yoga treatment for the patients of the tribal community of the area for managing Immune Deficiency Disorders. This Naturopathy and Yoga Hospital cum training center is expected to serve as a model unit for the rest of the country. The GoheBudruk Naturopathy Hospital has the capacity to handle Out-patients and In-patients with an accommodation capacity of 20 beds in which include separate wards for males and females, a well-furnished Yoga hall, a diet center, and an array of natural therapies.
