  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the tenth Prime Minister of India.
  • He was born on 25 December 1924 in Bateshwar village in the house of Krishna Devi and Krishna Bihari Vajpayee in Gwalior Madhya Pradesh. And he died on August 14, 2018 at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi at the age of 93 years.
  • He graduated from Victoria College and did his MA in Political Science from DAV College, Kanpur.
  • He had never been a bachelor in the whole life, but had adopted a girl named Namita. His close friends and relatives used to call him ‘Bap Ji’.
  • Despite being born in a Brahmin family, he was fond of eating meat and fish.
  • He was a politician as well as a poet. He served the country three times as Prime Minister.
  • He became the first Prime Minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Manmohan Singh has called it Bhishma Pitamah of politics.
  • Impressed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, he turned to the political.

  • When he was foreign minister, he gave a speech in Hindi language in the United Nations and he was the first leader of the country to do so.
  • He has been awarded with Padma Vibhushan in 1992, Lokmanya Tilak Award in 1994, Best Parliamentarian Award and Govind Vallabh Pant. He was also honored with the country’s highest honor Bharat Ratna in December 2014.
