What is an airport? Define?
List of Airports :- An airfield or airport is a place where thousands and millions of air vehicles, such as airplanes, airplanes, aeroplanes, helicopters, etc. take off or take off daily. That place is called Airport.

Airplanes can also be stored at the airport. Each airport has an vimanpatti  and a terminal building and a helipad.

History of Air transport in India

India is a developing country; hence the development of the aviation authority is happening very fast. In view of all this, there are two types of airport is constructed one is domestic and other is international airports were constructed in India.

  • Air transport in India started in 1911. When the world’s first airline postal service was transported from Allahabad to Naini.
  • In 1933, the Indian National Airways Company was established, which operated aircraft between Lahore to Karachi. Mumbai- Thiruvananthapuram was provided by Tata Airways in 1935 and Mumbai-Delhi route in 1937 by the same company. Till independence, 21 air transport companies had been established in the country. In 1953, all aeronautical companies were nationalized and made under two newly created corporations.

Under the Air Corporation Act of 1953, all aeronautical companies were nationalized and placed under two newly formed corporations – Indian Airlines and Air India.

In 2007, Indian Airlines and Air India merged together.

A third company called “Vayudoot” was set up in 1981 for the domestic airline authority in India, which was later merged with Indian Airlines.

The International Aircraft Authority in India was established in June 1972.

International Airports

There are mainly 5 international airports in India. Their names are as follows: –

  • Jawaharlal Nehru Airport (Santacruz Airport) (Mumbai)
  • Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport (Dum Dum Airport) (Kolkata)
  • Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi)
  • Meenambakam (Chennai) and
  • Thiruvananthapuram.

In addition, it has been decided to declare new Cochin airports located at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Goa, Amritsar, Guwahati and Nedumbasari as international airports.
