World cities day- an Introduction

31 October World cities day is celebrated globally. The purpose of this day is to establish a synergy between the increasing population and urbanization so that urbanization does not pose any threat to the global community. The overall World City Day theme is Better City, Better Life.

The day aims to promote the interest of the international community to implement the New Urban Agenda globally.
It also ensures increased opportunities between countries to meet opportunities and meet the challenges of urbanization in cities.
Nearly half of the world’s population now lives in cities.
The number of airports is expected to double by 2050 as urbanization is one of the world’s most transformative trends.

  History

World City Day is celebrated every year on 31 October. Its aim is to work for planned and sustainable urban living amidst increasing population and problems. Global “World City Day 2018” was celebrated in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

The United Nations Conference is held over two decades. This topic was organized in 1976, 1996, and 2016. Habitat II was organized in Istanbul. Habitat I was held in British Columbia, Canada. The convention was integrated into the Vancouver Declaration on Human Settlements. It created an action plan with 64 recommendations for national action. And shown in a form.

And finally, the New Urban Agenda was adopted at the Habitat III conference held in Ecuador on October 20, 2016. This agenda was published in 30 different languages. And thus World Cities Day was inaugurated.

Changing the World: Innovations and Better Life for Future Generations, is the theme of this year’s celebration and the subject of a conference that UNESCO will host at its Headquarters in Paris on 31 October (9 am to 6.30 pm).
