Gholvad Sapota (chikoo) got GI certified for UK Exports

Ministry of Commerce & Industry always in a major boost of exports of Geographical Indication (GI) certified products. For this today one consignment of Dahanu Gholvad Sapota from Palghar district of Maharashtra was exports to UK.

GI certificate of Gholvad Sapota (chikoo) is held by Maharashtra State Chikoo Utpadak sangh. Chikoo is a famous fruit for the Maharashtra state. It is famou for their sweet and unique taste. As per the believed Chikoos unique taste was deriven out from soil of Gholvad village.

Now in currently time at Maharashtra state at Palghar district almost 5000 hectares of land Gholvad Sapota (chikoo) plantation Out of 5000 farmers who grow Sapota, and 147 farmers are authorized GI users.
